Niccolò Paganini - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Niccolò Paganini October 27, 1782 †May 27, 1840 was an Italian violinist, violist, guitarist, and composer. He was the most celebrated violin virtuoso of his time, and left his mark as one of the pillars of modern violin technique. His caprice in A minor, Op. 1 No. 24 is among his best known compositions, and serves as inspiration for other prominent artists from Johannes Brahms to Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The Grandes Etudes de Paganini, S.141, are a series of six etudes composed for the piano by Franz Liszt in 1851, based on Paganini compositions for violin. They are among the most technically difficult pieces that a virtuoso can play, especially in their earlier versions, Transcendental Etudes after Paganini, S.140, composed in 1838-39.
